Dream the world into being

Dream the world into being

20161109_163024It is a bleak autumn day. The whole day is filled with a drizzle that doesn’t let up and the news from the US is also not good. How can you vote for a man who lies and degrades women, who wants to shut out people with a different colour or religion. I know, his opponent wasn’t very worthy either. Maybe that is what you get when at the end of this proces you are only to chose between two candidates. To me it looks like the banktrupcy of democracy when you are allowed to lead a society or  country through lies, manipulation and deceit.  I picked up this text by John O’Donohue from a beautiful blog:

May the gift of leadership awaken in you as a vocation,
Keep you mindful of the providence that calls you to serve.
As high over the mountains the eagle spreads its wings,
May your perspective be larger than the view from the foothills.
When the way is flat and dull in times of gray endurance, may your imagination continue to evoke horizons.
When thirst burns in times of drought, may you be blessed to find the wells.
May you have the wisdom to read time clearly and know when the seed of change will flourish.
In your heart may there be a sanctuary for the stillness where clarity is born.
May your work be infused with passion and creativity and have the wisdom to balance compassion and challenge.
May your soul find the graciousness to rise above the fester of small mediocrities.
May your power never become a shell wherein your heart would silently atrophy.
May you welcome your own vulnerability as the ground where healing and truth join.
May integrity of soul be your first ideal, the source that will guide and bless your work.

Time to go outside for a bit. Not too long and not too far. The drizzle keeps me inside the walls of the old monastery. Even in a park like this nature is just what it is. Nature is not ‘beautiful’or ‘ugly, isn’t ‘colourful’ or ‘glorious’, isn’t ‘sweet’ or ‘monstruous’. These are observations at best and most of the time they proclaim judgement. Nature is pure. How would it be if we could be pure without observations or judgement? Would there still be manipulation, deceit and lies? I know very well that I am no saint and I also let myself be led by negative emotions and dynamics sometimes. I recognize it as the shadowside of my personality that we know from psychology, more specifically the Jungian psychology. We all have this shadowside inside of us, we even create it and we need to be aware of it. Next to this personal shadow, there is also a shadow created by all of us together, by  our society, one that holds whole communities in its spell.

20161109_162936How will the next generation deal with this dynamic? The psychologist Jung also was known for his work on the subconscious and with dreamwork. Together with an American colleague from the dreamwork I am creating an online conference to work with young women on how they see their future world. We consider young women because we think they hold the key to the change that is necessary. It is about connecting the energy and creative power of our subconscious to the reality of the tangible world. We are calling it “dream the world into being”. We want to send a positive message to the world. We want to create a future where conectedness and love play a major role and where leaders are motivated by integrity and wisdom.

The chestnut diner turned out to be a quiet and succesful event. At the end of the evening we asked ourselves what comes after ‘letting go’. We decided on ’embracing’. So there will be a next dinner with the theme “embracing”. A possible day is December 16th but I need to confirm that still. Let me know when you want to join, maybe we can find the most suitable date together.

  1. Dear Wim,

I have to say that the news early this morning made me feel as though the lights had gone out for good. Then I reminded myself that far worse things have happened and are happening across the world. It is indeed very troubling but I remain hopeful. We may not like it one bit but millions of people voted for him because in him they see some sort of hope. I think the rest of us now have to work twice as hard to hold on the principles that we have so that we achieve some of the things you quoted from John O’Donohue. I think you lit a bit of a candle there Wim! See you next week in the Lakes when we can no doubt talk some more!
